Baranquilla’s citizens are soon to have a new cultural tribute that will make them proud! The renowned Shakira will soon be honored with a statue placed in a strategic location chosen by the people through a vote. This is a well-deserved recognition of the singer’s philanthropic work through her Pies Descalzos Foundation, which has helped many people.
Shakira made an appearance at a press conference for Pies Descalzos and FC Barcelona to announce a grant to the YMCA of Greater Miami at the University of Miami Fieldhouse on August 1, 2011 in Coral Gables, Florida. A stunning 20-foot bronze sculpture by plastic artist Yino Marquez will be created to pay tribute to Shakira. The goal is to provide a cultural reference for visitors to make a “pilgrimage” to take pictures, stay in hotels, and invest in the beautiful city. The artist said that the process is currently in the preparation phase. Additionally, Shakira will attend the event where the Nuevo Bosque Megal-School will be delivered, a project supported by her foundation, the Ministry of Housing, the Mayor’s office, and the Santo Domingo Foundation.
